Mahindra Defense Systems and The Boeing Company have formally established a training center in Gurgaon, India, in order to provide training services for the Boeing C-17 Globemaster aircraft intended for the Indian Air Force. The Boeing C-17 Globemaster is commonly used to perform strategic and tactical airlift missions and is also used for transporting cargo and troops throughout the entire world. The aircraft is a very large military transport aircraft, with a length of 174 feet and weighing in at around 282 thousand pounds. Once this new training facility is fully operational, the training center will have the capabilities of performing multi-site as well as local simulations for more robust training with additional realism.

The Indo-Russian Brahmos missile has officially taken flight aboard an Indian Air Force Su-30MKI for the first time in history. This marked a major milestone for Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL) which carried out the 45 minute captive carry test flight on June 25th. The long-delayed test flight faced significant issues relating to the limited design data that was shared by Brahmos Aerospace Pvt. Ltd (BAPL) which is a joint venture between the Russian NPOM missile house and the Indian Defence Research and Development Organization.

Airbus, the European aerospace agency unveiled the world’s first 3D printed aircraft at the Berlin air show early in June of this year. The small plane Thor, which is short for “test of High-tech Objectives in Reality” resembles a model plane, with its windowless frame, white walls, and light weight. With this aircraft, Airbus has opened a door to a new realm to 3D printing that is cost effective as it requires no tools and yields close to nothing in manufacturing waste. 3D printing is also time and fuel efficient as parts can be made quickly and lighter than ever before. Gunnar Haase, the chief engineer for this project stated that Thor is stable when it flies. The only parts of the plane that are not printed are its electrical components.

The special office in charge of procuring new aircrafts for The Danish Defense Ministry has comprised and delivered a final and comprehensive analysis which approves of the recent purchase by the United States for a batch of Lockheed Martin F-35 stealth multi-role fighters. The ministry office which has spent the last nine years studying and analyzing Denmark’s options in regards to renewals of its aging F-16 fight jets fleet, has deduced and concluded that the Lockheed Martin Aeronautics-manufactured aircraft is superior to the Boeing’s Super Hornet fighters. On May 19th 2016, Chris Pook released an article on AINonline talking about how there has been a new spear missile for the F-35 that was confirmed by the United Kindgom Ministry of Defense. This was a contract that was over $590 million for the spear missile. This has been in the works since the design was released in 2012. It seems this F-35 spear missile won’t be done and ready to go until sometime in the middle of 2020. This information was provided by the Ministry of Defense.

VietJet Air, the low-cost Vietnamese carrier has just signed an order for 100 Boeing 737 Max 200s, valued at just a shade under $11.3 billion list price. The order made VietJet Air just the second customer to commit to the high-density variant offered by Boeing and was signed during a visit by US President and Commander in Chief Barack Obama to Hanoi. President and Chief Executive of VietJet Nguyen Thi Phoung Thao revealed that the tremendous investment into a fleet of Max 200s is all part of VietJet Air’s strategy to accommodate the growth of VietJet’s coming international route network which now includes long haul flights.

The Russian Defense Ministry has recently reported that Russia has decided to place an order for thirty Sukhoi Su-30SM multirole fighter aircrafts. This order was placed with Irkut Corporation, the Russian aircraft manufacturer which is best known for their production of the Sukhoi Su-30 family of interceptor and ground attack aircrafts. The Sukhoi Su-30 fighter aircraft was developed by Russia’s Sukhoi Aviation Corporation, and is a multirole fighter for all weather, air-to-surface and air-to-air deep interdiction missions. These new fighter aircrafts are anticipated to enter into service with the Russian Aerospace Forces towards the end of 2018.
