Embraer, the Brazilian aerospace conglomerate which serves as a world leading manufacturer of commercial jets, has recently announced in Dallas, Texas at the MRO Americas show that SkyWest Airlines has chosen Embraer Aircraft Maintenance Services (EAMS) as the exclusive provider of heavy maintenance for their fleet of E175 narrow-body jets. SkyWest Airlines is a North American major airline which is headquartered in St. George, Utah and is owned by SkyWest, Inc. Under the contract, SkyWest Airlines will receive repair services as well as airframe modifications and maintenance from Embraer Aircraft Maintenance Services for their Embraer fleet.

Airbus Helicopters, the helicopter manufacturing division of Airbus Group, has recently announced a new “generic” weapon system for use on the H125M light single, the H145M light twin, as well as the H225M medium twin helicopters. This new weapon system, named the “HForce,” will adhere to an incremental approach in order to arm the manufacturer’s military commercial rotorcrafts. This newly structured offer will include a variety of guided and ballistic weapons as well as accompanying targeting systems.

This past week, the Boeing test team conducted the inaugural test flight of their second KC-46A tanker prototype.   During this test flight, pilots successfully checked a number of different systems within the aircraft including its engine stability, overall maneuverability and environmental conditions.

France has announced that they are currently in the process of making a major decision regarding the light and medium helicopters operated and manned by all three branches of its armed forces. Under the current timeline, Paris has until 2020 to begin the acquisition process under the HIL programme otherwise known as Nascent Helicoptere Interarmees Leger. The primary problem facing the DGA is that many of the aged type helicopters are nearing the expiration date for their operational capacity.

Bahrain has recently been considering whether or not to launch a major program in order to modernize their fleet of Lockheed Martin F-16s. The country is also considering the acquisition of an additional batch equipped with the advanced V-model configuration. The regional vice-president of the Middle East for Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, Rick Groesch, has suggested that the Royal Bahraini Air Force is seeking for a boost in capabilities, as the country faces increasing operational demand due to its involvement in the Middle East in the coalition campaign against Islamic State militants.

Russia recently struck a deal with Egypt to supply the Egyptian Navy with 46 Ka-52K naval attack helicopters to equip the two Mistraal-class helicopter carriers acquired from France. The Ka-52K is a naval attack variant of the Ka-52 alligator attack helicopter. It has distinguishing features such as a folding stub-wings, folding rotor head and reinforced landing gear. In addition to that the Ka-52K has weapons pods which are capable of holding and launching Kh-38 and Kh-35 cruise missiles.
