Today Bombardier, one of the world’s leading aerospace firms has announced that they are preparing to introduce the world’s first turboprop commercial aircraft that can boast a 90 passenger capacity. Fred Cromer, President, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft states that a huge part of the evolution of the Bombardier’s Q400 aircraft program is their commitment to increasing capacity for their regional routes to first and foremost address the ever-growing demands of passenger capacity requirements and secondly to increase profitability based on a model of efficiency.
“We are witnessing growth in the number of passengers per departure in the turboprop market and Bombardier is responding with a 90-seat Q400 aircraft,” says Patrick Baudis, Vice President of Marketing for the Bombardier Commercial Aircraft.
He goes on to proclaim that man industry leaders have both internally discussed and made plans to develop a 90-seat turboprop and yet Bombardier is the only one that has made that vision into a reality. The Q400 aircraft is designed with a modern, 21st century turboprop model in mind. It offers an exciting and unique blend of speed and efficiency. While offering an additional 12-14 seats per aircraft and higher scheduling frequency, the Bombardier Q400 aircraft delivers excess value of more than $8 million dollars per aircraft to their customers. 12-14 seats which equals out to about 20 percent operating cost advantage combined with 30 percent higher speed in traveling equals to greater efficiency when calculating the savings that customers of Bombardier will enjoy with the Q400 series aircraft.
The Q400 travels 160 km/h faster than conventional turboprop jets which puts it on pace with jet schedules but at reduced cost for seats akin to the larger single-aisle aircraft. With over 60 owners worldwide in over 40 countries, the Q400 series aircraft has logged a cumulative 6.7 million flight hours and have transported over 413 million passengers since its inception. As such the Q400 aircraft has drawn significant interest from the leasing community and has led Bombardier to take in over 500 orders for the Q400 aircraft.
