Mitsubishi Regional Jet Makes Maiden Flight

Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation has recently completed the maiden flight for their new Mitsubishi Regional Jet (MRJ), the first passenger plane developed in Japan since the NAMC YS-11 in 1962. This marks a vital step towards the country’s desires of competing internationally as an aircraft manufacturer.

The Mitsubishi Regional Jet engaged in its very first flight on Wednesday morning with two pilots and flew over Japan’s Pacific coast. Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation has already received over 400 orders, despite the company delaying the MRJ’s delivery date three times now. The first models are due for delivery in the second quarter of 2017, and will be sent to All Nippon Airways Co. “The MRJ has a lot of potential,” said an analyst at JPMorgan Securities Japan Co. in Tokyo, Dan Lu. “I expect demand for regional jets to increase as more people fly and airlines put smaller jets on some routes.” The MRJ will compete for orders alongside Canada’s Bombardier Inc. as well as Brazil’s Embraer SA. According to Chief Cabinet Secretary, Yoshihide Suga, the government will also be helping Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation in order to sell the plane internationally. "I appreciate the government’s support and look forward to joint corporate delegations with the government to sell the planes overseas," said Hiromichi Morimoto, president of Mitsubishi Aircraft, when asked about Suga’s comments. The maiden flight of the MRJ comes nine days after China reveal its first narrow-body passenger jet, the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China’s C919. Motoo Hayashi, the trade minister of Japan, praised the flight as “the beginning of a new era for Japan’s aircraft industry.” Here at ASAP Aviation Procurement, we have the resources to distribute a vast array of Mitsubishi products.
