Elixir Aircraft Preparing for First Flight for 2017
On November 30th 2016, Kate Sarsfield wrote an article for Flight Global talking about how Elixir Aircraft is preparing for its first flight in 2017. Elixir Aircraft is considered to be one of France’s start up manufacturers. There will be an assembly for the prototype that will be done in December. After this is completed, the company aims to have the all carbon fiber aircraft to be in flight sometime during the first half of 2017.
Here is what Cyril Champenois, the Elixir co-founder and chief operations has to say about this. “All the molds required to produce the composite parts – including fuselage, wing, aileron, flaps, rudder – are done, and we have started building them.”
The Elixir aircraft was focusing on being very efficient my only using eight pieces in terms of structural components. This makes the aircraft a lot stronger because there are less bonded parts.
Here is what Cyril adds, “We are making good progress. The Rotax 912iS engine, the fuel system elements, MT propeller and flap actuators have all been delivered. Our target now is to fly the Elixir in the first half of 2017 and certificate and deliver the aircraft by early 2018."
This project has costed the company roughly around $170,000. The aircraft has a range of 1,000nm, weight of 580lbs, payload of 280kgm and a cruise speed of 140-170kt.
