On Wednesday June 29th 2016, Russian Helicopters updated their website with news of how Serbia gets its first 2 Mi-17V-5 helicopters from them and Rosoboronexport. Russian Helicopters is part of the State Corporation Rostec. These helicopters are considered medium sized. The helicopter’s end user was the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Serbia. Kazan Helicopter Plant was the manufacturer for the rotorcraft. The helicopters were shipped under the contract from Rosoboronexport.

According to Russian Helicopters, the paperwork was signed and completed by September 2015. Along with manufacturing the helicopters, pilots needed to be retrained as well as technical personnel. To put an exact amount, there were four pilots as well as two flight engineers that works at the Karzan Plant’s Aviation Training Center (ATC). The team was trained using simulation, theoretical courses, and day and night flights. In addition, there were four radio electronic equipment specialists as well as three master technicians that needed to complete the training.

"This is the first contract with the Serbian Ministry of Defense for the supply of new helicopters. Its timely implementation is very important and will contribute to further development of relations between our two countries.
