TAI Launches Program to Build and Deliver T70 Utility Helicopters Over The Next 10 Years

Sikorsky’s success in multi-role Black Hawk utility aircraft lead to activating contractual agreements under the Turkish Utility Helicopter program (TUHP) to produce T70 utility helicopter. This agreement has been approved by the U.S. and Turkish governments, it permits the Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) to manufacture and deliver 109 T70 helicopters over the period of 10 years. Six Turkish agencies such as the Land Forces, Air Forces and Special Forces are expecting the product by the year 2021.

Over the next couple of years Sikorsky will communicate with TAI in order to establish an assembly line for building or assembling the aircrafts. Engineering data will be exchanged over the next couple of years until the first certified and qualified delivery of the T70 aircraft to the Turkish government in 2021. Then gradually the TAI will expand their manufacturing capabilities beyond assembling the aircrafts. Alp Aviation and Sikorsky will unite together to build dynamic components and flight controls and assemble landing gear and transmission. Widest range of Sikorsky aircraft parts, Aselsan and Sikorsky will co-develop an enhanced digital cockpit known as the Integrated Modular Avionic System (IMAS). Also under the license of General Electric (GE) the Turkish Engine Industries (TEI) will build the engines for these aircrafts.

The Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) are planning to manufacture 89 aircrafts with general configuration and another 20 in a military configuration. The Turkish Utility Helicopter Program (TUHP) program is estimated to cost $3.5 billion for the 109 T70 aircraft including the work done by Sikorsky, TAI and other suppliers.
